An interesting thing...

...happened yesterday.

But a bit of backstory first. Recently, I've been signing a few petitions (electronically), all having to do with the environment. Some were also form letters that went to representitivates (State, Federal, etc).

Apparently, one that I sent out having to do with the CT "Clean Cars" legislation was read, and I got a reply from the deputy minority leader of the CT House of Reps, asking for more information about the current California law.

I guess that I'm a bit suprised that someone was actually reading these things. Sorta gives hope for our government...

(no subject)

They say that the greatest mitzvah that one can do is to bury someone. Because that act of kindness can never be repaid.

Today our trader that was killed Christmas Eve eve was committed to the ground. I wish that the funeral wasn't so far away that I could have gone. Or even gone to his wake. They stopped all trading (only on the UBS floor, not on the NYSE) for a 90 seconds of silence in rememberance.

And so another year passes. May this upcoming year be filled with joy, health, prosperity and peace for everyone.

Your end users...

aren't supposed to die on you.

As I was leaving the office for the half day, I learned that last night one of the bigger, more important, program traders was killed in a car crash.

And another piece of life returns to NYC

Sunday they reopened/reestablished PATH service back into the WTC... or rather, where the WTC used to be. Things were emotional, as one can imagine - they used the same cars that were in the last train that made it out of the WTC on 9/11/01.

Stuck up late

Since I was stuck up late, I decided to pop in Fantasia - a DVD that I've subsisted on over this past half year or so.

I've always been moved by Ave Maria - even though I've never known what it meant. Other than probably something about the Virgin Mary.

There are very few songs that can move me to tears almost instantly - Ave Maria, the Kol Nidre service, "Who Am I?" from Les Mis, and Billy Joel's "Miami 2017 (I've Seen the Lights Go Out On Broadway)". There's one or two others, but I can't remember titles right now.

But, for your reading enjoyment (and for my remembering enjoyment) they lyrics, in Latin and English for Ave Maria

And another year rolls by. We just observed our last of four moments of silence (and the second stoppage of trading), and the bagpipes are playing. Again.

In case anyone was interested, or wanted to find it, behind the cut is the Mourner's Kaddish, in hebrew, english and a transliteration.
